When fastening Cool-Vent or H-Shield NB to a metal roof deck, do I hit the top or bottom of the flute?

Question:
When fastening Hunter Panels Cool-Vent or H-Shield NB to a metal roof deck is it acceptable to hit either the top or bottom of the flute?

Answer:
This is a great question that has come up several times recently. When fastening Cool-Vent or H-Shield NB to a metal deck you want to hit the top of the flute, not the bottom. There are 2 specific advantages to this guideline. The most significant benefit is that you won't run the risk of compromising your metal deck by unknowingly breaking puddle welds with the fastener.  You will also avoid the pitfall of over-driving the fastener into the bottom flute, which can start to pull the panel down with it causing a small swale in the wood substrate.   Hunter Panels recommends that these panels be installed perpendicular to the direction of the flutes to maximize opportunities to hit the top of the flute with each fastener.
